Nelda Elaine Curry was born January 11, 1949, in Houston, Texas. She passed away unexpectedly in her home at Canyon Lake, Texas, on December 18, 2021.
Throughout her career, Nelda held several civil service positions at US Air Force bases, including Randolph Recreation Center on Canyon Lake where she worked alongside her husband Tom, Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, and Columbus Air Force Base in Mississippi. Nelda's final position brought her back to Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio.
Nelda graciously opened her home to her parents and blessed them with the support they needed. She was an excellent cook and loved to host others to share her delicious food. Nelda especially enjoyed Christmas and the holidays; she delighted in decorating with a flair for the occasion. She was an avid collector of many things and cherished her relationships with family and friends. She was a family member and friend you could count on in times of need and celebration. Nelda was known for her sassy personality, tenacity, and fierce independence.
She is survived by her son, Tim O'Brien and his wife Kim, her grandchildren, Cooper, Nathan and Addy, her great-grandchildren, Marshall and Maverick, her brothers, Joel Bowden and Robert Bowden, her sisters-in-law, Cindy Bowden, Pennie Curry and Kathy O'Brien, her nephew, Matt Bowden and his wife Jennifer, and her niece, Rachel Weber and her husband Bryan.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, Michael O'Brien, her second husband, Thomas (Tom) Curry, her parents, John Bowden and Juanita (Wade) Bowden, her mother-in-law, Katy Marie O'Brien, and her sister-in-law, Tina Bowden.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home at Canyon Lake in Sattler, Texas from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM. A graveside service will follow at 1:00 PM at Fischer Cemetery in Fischer, Texas.
