Richard James Yonker, Sr., 82, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 14, 2020 in New Braunfels, Texas.   Richard was born in Bradford, Pennsylvania on November 14,1937 to James and Mildred (Kenneson) Yonker. He was the older brother of Carolyn and Barbara Jean.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Barbara Elizabeth (Lang) Yonker.

Lovingly remembered by his children, Teri Lynn (Yonker) Harding and her husband, Ralph; Richard Yonker, Jr. and his wife, Joanna (Brown) Yonker; John Yonker and his wife, Mary Ellen (Pearce) Yonker and his grandchildren, who he was very proud of, Megan Yonker, Michael Yonker, James Yonker and Allison Yonker.

Richard and Barbara were married on July 28, 1958 in Bradford, Pennsylvania. He highly valued education and hardwork and graduated from St. Bonaventure University in 1965. He started his career with Dresser Industries as an accountant, later earning his CPA and ending his career as President of the Elliott Turbocharger division in Salina, Kansas. Richard's work took him and his family across the country from Pennsylvania to California, to Texas and finally Kansas. Richard enjoyed reading, snow skiing, cycling, the LA Dodgers, and working around the house and in the yard.

Upon retirement, he and Barbara moved to New Braunfels, Texas to be close to their sons who had married Texas girls. They enjoyed their retirement spending time with their children and grandchildren. Richard and Barbara travelled the world together cruising to such places as Europe, Africa, China and Russia.

Richard was soft spoken, funny, kind, hardworking and loved pancakes. Richard also volunteered at the New Braunfels Library and served meals at the Westside Community Center.

We will always carry his memory in our hearts.

A funeral will be held Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home with a private burial at Comal Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, get your oil changed and check the air pressure in your tires- he would have wanted that.
