Steven J. Sewell, USMC Ret., passed on suddenly of natural causes on May 25th, 2022.

Steve was born in 1939 and raised in Elko, Nevada graduating from Elko High School in 1957. He
was president of his high school's FFA chapter. He grew up doing ranch work, working cattle,
and driving cattle trucks in northern Nevada and southern Idaho. While in high school, he
worked at the local airport, took flying lessons, and got a private pilot's license at age 17. He
graduated college with a B.A. in Ranch Management from Arizona State University in 1961.

As construction started on the Berlin Wall in Germany and the draft was activated, Steve chose
to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. After completing officer candidate school, he was
commissioned as a 2nd Lt. Steve served two tours of active duty in Chu Lai, Vietnam, as a USMC
A-4 Skyhawk pilot providing ground support for U.S. and allied troops. His first tour was from
1965-1966 and his second tour was from 1968-1969. During these two tours, he was awarded
a Distinguished Flying Cross and several air medals. He was also a FAC in Laos and participated
in a brief tour with the Air Force Misty FACS. After his second tour in Vietnam had been
completed, he transferred to the USMC reserves, until his retirement as a lieutenant colonel.

While still in the USMC reserves, Steve became a pilot for Continental Airlines for several years
based in Los Angeles. After a strike at Continental Airlines, he worked as a simulator instructor
for Western Airlines. He later became a pilot at Air Cal which was then purchased by American
Airlines. As a pilot for American Airlines, he achieved the rank of captain in 1993 where he was
based in Chicago for several years. A few years later he began to fly international trips to
London and Paris out of Boston. When Steve was not flying, he enjoyed working on
construction projects with a family member that owned a construction company and he
obtained his own contractor's license from the state of California in the 1990's.

Steve was married to his first wife, Marian Moody Sewell, for 39 years, living in Irvine, CA.
Marian passed in 2003. They had two children, Leslie Sewell Raymond and Roger Sewell. In
2007, he met and married Carol Ames Sewell, and they moved to Seguin, TX in 2010. Steve was
active in their neighborhood HOA. Steve was also a member of the New Braunfels Chapter of
the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) and had just recently completed building a Van's
RV-14 kit plane. Steve was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist in New Braunfels, TX.

Steve is survived by his second wife, Carol Ames Sewell, his children, Leslie Sewell Raymond
(John Ikebe, fiancée) of Spring Branch, TX, and Roger Sewell (wife, Leah) of Eagle Mountain,
Utah and his two granddaughters, Ashley Evans of Boise, Idaho, and Savannah Raymond of
Spring Branch, as well as by his sister, Carol Sewell Sutterlin, (husband, Armin) of Mesquite, NV.
He is also survived by his three step-sons, Garrett Ames, Garner Ames, and Jordan Ames and
their wives and 9 children. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Charles and Orene Sewell, of
Elko, NV, and his older sister, Sue Anne Sewell Gruell and her husband, Jack, of Riggins, ID.

A family celebration of life is in the planning stages for this kind man loved & respected by all.
