Obituary

After waging a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease, Sylvia Foran passed away peacefully while sleeping.

Sylvia's parents, Gretchen and Merlin Sarphie raised her in the southern Mississippi town of McComb.  After graduation from the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Sylvia moved to Corpus Christi where she taught at Meadowbrook Elementary School for several years.   She met and soon married Bill Foran and it was in Corpus where they raised two boys.

With malice towards none and charity to all, Sylvia made dozens of truly close friends in Corpus and then in New Braunfels, their final residence.  It is not hyperbole to describe Sylvia Foran as a person who did not have a mean bone in her body.  She lived her life in that sweet spot in time where being a housewife and loving mother was still an enviable aspiration in and of itself.  She loved her family in Texas and Mississippi, her family out West, and her home in New Braunfels.

Surviving Sylvia are her son and daughter-in-law Michael and Raycheal Foran of San Antonio, and her son Eric Foran of Austin.  She will be missed by her cousins, sisters and brother-in-law, TAAGS amigas, and hopefully anyone else lucky enough to have crossed paths her.  Her survivors offer immeasurable thanks and recognition of Helen Martinez and her family for their decades of friendship and support especially in the last several tough years.  As an expression of sympathy, the family asks that friends contribute whenever possible to any organization whose aim is the eradication of Alzheimer's disease.
