Terry Franklin Hardeman passed peacefully at home on Sunday, March 23, 2025 at the age of 84 with his family nearby after fighting cancer. Terry was born in Melrose, Texas on December 16, 1940, to Hal and Lessie Hardeman.  He attended primary school in Melrose and then transferred to Nacogdoches for middle and high school.  He continued his education at Stephen F. Austin State College and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1963. After graduation he joined the US Army Reserves. Upon completion of services, he became an accountant at the accounting firm of Peat Marwick and it was here that he met Janice on a blind date and married her on July 10, 1965.  Shortly after he earned his MBA at the University of Houston (1969) and gained his CPA license the following year.

Terry and Janice started their family with their first daughter, Mindie in 1972.  In 1973, Terry advanced his career moving his family to San Antonio eventually becoming the CFO of Brake Check. The move to San Antonio also completed their family with the addition of their second daughter, Meredith in 1974.

In 1985 the family moved to New Braunfels where Terry and Janice have remained.  In 1990, Terry left Brake Check to start his own CPA and consulting practice and worked with several companies in the oil and gas business.

During Terry's life he was active in many organizations and civic groups. Some of which include SFA Alumni Association (Past Board Member), Texas State Board of Public Accounting (50-year honoree), Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants (40-year lifetime membership honoree), National Association of Accountants, Sons of American Revolution (Distinguished Service), The Sons of the Republic of Texas, SFA Pikes of the 60's (charter member), Bible Study Fellowship. One of his noted favorites was being a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity of SFA where he met many of his lifelong friends.

Besides spending time with his family, Terry loved bird hunting with his bird dog, Brooks, fishing in Port Aransas and especially fly fishing in Montana.  According to Terry, driving the backroads of our Country was the only way to go and he had NO interest to travel the Interstate system AT ALL!  Which if you were his travel companion quickly turned a trip into a blurred combination of fun, interesting and frustrating all at the same time.  Terry and Janice were able to continue these adventures throughout their retirement.

Terry's other great joys were grilling for friends and family, especially sharing his techniques with his sons-in-law.  His love for baseball dates back to his childhood when he learned the love of the game from his older brother, Ross.  As he grew older, he started following MLB especially the Astros, which at the time were called the Houston Colt 45's. This love of baseball took him from the old Houston Colt's stadium to the Astrodome, and finally Minute Made Park.

Terry loved his wife, Janice and daughters dearly, but he thought the world revolved around his grandchildren.  At every opportunity, they would travel to various parts of Texas to catch their basketball, volleyball, and football games, even a few horseshows.  He had the good fortune to be present for many of the milestones in their lives.  As much as he loved them, they equally felt the same and have fond memories of their granddad – Paps.  If you ever need to remember what Terry looked like in his younger years – all you need to do is see his grandson, Christian.

Terry is preceded in death by his parents, Hal & Lessie Hardeman; brothers, Ross, Richard, Lynn Scott; sister, Lanell and In-laws, Patrick and Florence Brennan.  He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Janice Hardeman; his daughters, Mindie (William) Burch of Lubbock and Meredith (Matthew) Haralson of Austin; along with 4 grandchildren, Brooke (Kirby) Nixon, Christian Haralson, Brennan Haralson and Colton (Nichole) Burch; sister Mary Francis Eckles and many other family members.

A memorial visitation will be held at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels, Texas on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, from 5-7PM. The funeral service will also be held at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at 1PM.
