Vivian Kay
Furlow
Aug 29, 1944 — Aug 31, 2023
Vivian Kay Furlow, 79, of Kingsbury, Texas, passed away suddenly on August 31, 2023 at her home.
Vivian was born August 29, 1944 to Harold & Jimmy (Trull) Furlow in Little Rock, Arkansas. She attended school in Texas and graduated from San Antonio Highland High School. She continued her education at The University of Texas where she obtained her bachelor's degree in education.
In 1970, Vivian moved to Guam to start teaching – not only school but also diving. While there, she enjoyed fishing and snorkeling. In 1988 she received one of the most important calls of her life from Fort Worth, Texas. They had a baby boy available for adoption, she immediately came back to Texas and adopted Joshua. Together they went back to Guam for another 5 years, until she retired early and moved to Canyon Lake, Texas to care for her parents.
Nothing stopped Vivian from following her happiness. After caring for her parents, she went on to teach a few more years at Saints Peter & Paul in New Braunfels, Texas and then changed career paths and studied to become a realtor. She worked at Coldwell Banker and Better Homes & Gardens in New Braunfels as well. She truly enjoyed her time as a realtor. Once fully retired, she became a member of the Lions Club, the Writers Club and the German Choir, all located in New Braunfels.
Vivian loved spending time with her son, Josh, his wife, and their children, her "hug-a-boos". She loved them more than anything in the world and was often found teaching them new life skills. Aside from family, she enjoyed gardening year round, cooking and socializing with friends.
Vivian is survived by her son, Josh (Danielle) Furlow of San Marcos, Texas; six grandchildren, Ailey, Carter, Ondreyah, Trooper, Ja'Veon and Elionnah, plus another due in November; and her brother, Jim (Becky) Furlow of Lubbock, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and her sister, Sherry Sutherland.
Honoring Vivian's wishes, her body has been cremated. A memorial service for Vivian will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Canyon Lake United Methodist Church with Reverend Polly Angle officiating. There will be food and a time of gathering for family and friends following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Vivian's family.
