David grew up on his family's farm in south Texas.  He graduated from Agua Dulce High School in 1955 and Southwestern University, Georgetown, TX in 1959.  His career began at the Texas Memorial Library, but quickly moved to investment banking and real estate.  One of his greatest passions was officiating high school football.  David was a member of the SFOA officials' organization where he was a referee for varsity football for more than 40 years and the real-life "referee" in "Friday Night Lights" maintaining "the true story" of games in west Texas.  He resided in Austin and San Antonio, and later retired to Wimberly and then Canyon Lake.  David was a devout Methodist and was actively involved in church life, especially the Walk to Emmaus program, where he served as lay director on several spiritual walks and an administrator of the Southwest Texas Conference Emmaus program.

David is preceded in death by his parents Wilbur F. Erck and Marie McClendon Erck of Agua Dulce/Alice, TX, and his brother Frederick Erck of San Antonio, TX.

David is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, JoNell Erck, brother James Erck of Alice, daughter Angela Fulcher of San Diego, CA, son Marc Erck of Austin, step-sons Jeff Osborn, Terry Osborn, Lance Osborn, and eight grandchildren.
