Wallace C Johnson passed away peacefully on August 19,, 2023 in New Braunfels, Texas.  He was born on August 10, 1924 in Hutto, Texas to Conrad Ernest Johnson and Ellen Marie Nord. He graduated from Hutto High School in 1942 and went to work for National Bisquit Company in Austin, Texas.

Wallace entered the US Army in 1943 where he was sent to England with 71st Ordinance Group Headquarters under the leadership of General Omar Bradley to prepare for the Normandy invasion.  After surviving the D-Day invasion and Battle of the Bulge he received five bronze stars and one silver star.

He returned home December 1945 and went to work for City National Bank in Taylor, Texas.  He married Dorothy Irene Blomquist on June 21, 1948.  Later, Wallace went to work for Taylor Bedding Mfg. as assistant sales manager for bedding and furniture.

In 1966 Wallace and Dorothy moved their family to New Braunfels, Texas where they co-founded Johnson Furniture Co.

Wallace was a charter life member of VFW Post #4476 in Taylor, Texas.  After moving to New Braunfels, he became active in the New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce and spear-headed the downtown Christmas decorations and the lighting of the downtown Christmas tree. He was also a charter and life member of the New Braunfels Downtown Association; a life member of the New Braunfels Noon Lions Club and was awarded a Century Member status. He served as an officer in the Elks Lodge #2279; was involved in the Boy Scouts, as well as the Little League baseball organization.  He's been a member of First United Methodist Church since 1966 and served in various aspects of the church including Sunday school teacher.

He is survived by his son, Gene Johnson, daughter, Carol Johnson, grandson Erik Johnson and granddaughter Amanda Criswell and husband Isaac, brother-in-law Franklin Blomquist and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Those who knew him respected his patriotism.  He loved the outdoors, especially his garden and was an avid fisherman and bird hunter.  He had a generous heart and loved to help those in need.

Visitation will be held from 5pm-7pm Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels, Texas.  Funeral service will be 2pm Thursday, August 24, 2023 at First United Methodist Church in New Braunfels, and graveside service will be 10am on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Taylor City Cemetery in Taylor, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Texas Lions Camp, First United Methodist Church, Museum of Texas Handmade Furniture or a charity of one's choice.
