Wilbert Elmer Krieg (Will/Shorty) was born on February 2, 1945 in Thrall, Texas to Elmer and Gertrude (Limmer) Krieg. He died on Saturday, December 31, 2022 at the age of 77 surrounded by his loving family.

Will was raised in a God-fearing family as a farm boy in Thrall, which deeply rooted him in his faith and instilled a sense of self-discipline, mental and physical toughness and a hard-working nature that was consistent throughout the course of his life. This was complemented by his inherently kind disposition, gentleness, and calming presence that led him to love without judgment and know no stranger.

Will was married to his high school sweetheart, Karen (Stanford) Krieg, for almost 57 years and they had three daughters together, Monica Hays, Kim Knauth and Leah Krieg. Will devoted his life to teaching, coaching, mentoring and molding young minds, influencing lives throughout the Comal Independent School District and beyond. Will was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Braunfels, helping lead the congregation as both the Congregational Vice President and President. Will also spent many years reading scripture, serving communion, conducting confirmation classes, and serving as an usher. Will's ever-present walk in his faith was evident in all he did, allowing people to know Jesus by knowing him. Will put his relationship with Christ at the center of every decision he made and he went through life with the mentality of 'it is never wrong to do right'.

Will loved spending time with his family and friends, especially if it included golfing, playing cards, or being with his grandchildren. He was always in the crowd at every game, meet, performance, or graduation as the biggest cheerleader and greatest supporter. Will loved old trucks, sports of any kind, being at the lake, and Coors Light. He was hilarious and charismatic, with a personality that could light up any room he walked into and he was rarely seen without a smile on his face. Will was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, Christian, and friend who led with humility and loved unconditionally.

Will was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Krieg and Gertrude (Limmer) Krieg,his brother, Dan Krieg and sister-in-law Lee Ruth (Schroeder) Krieg. He is survived by his loving wife, Karen (Stanford) Krieg; daughter, Monica Hays and husband Don Hays; daughter, Kim Knauth and husband Kirby Knauth; daughter, Leah Krieg; grandchildren, Logan and Taylor Hays, Abigail Krieg, Jace, Chancy, and Brady Knauth; as well as so many very special nieces, nephews, and cousins who knew him as Shorty.

The family wishes to express gratitude and appreciation to the family and friends, as well as Hope Hospice and the numerous caregivers, who cared for Will with such devoted compassion over the past few years.

The memorial service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, New Braunfels, TX,  Friday, January 6, 2023 at 4:00pm. The family will be available for visitation at 3:00pm prior to the service. Reception immediately following the service.
