Laura Lindholm (nee Carranza) passed away February 2, 2026 after a brief bout with cancer and following 91 years of a life well-lived. Born and raised in San Antonio, she learned to speak Italian in her family home, Spanish among her neighbors and friends, and finally English in elementary school. Laura was a proud graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and would happily sing the fight song at a moment's notice. She would also tell you she graduated from Zacatecas University (with a wink).

Laura started working at age 14 to help support her family, holding jobs as a salesgirl and then moving up to Chief Credit Investigator at Richard Gill Savings and Loan. Her favorite job by far was the nearly twenty years she spent at Healy-Murphy Center, an alternative school for young people in crisis, where her compassion and warmth shone brightly.

If you asked her, however, Laura would say that her life really began at the bullfights in Laredo on a blind date with a handsome Swedish engineer named Ulric Lindholm. Their romance seemed like a meeting of opposites– passion meets patience – but if you scratched a little deeper, you would find a shared love of family, friends, art, antiques, travel, gardening, a good party, and life at their historic farmhouse in Marlow, New Hampshire. With four kids happily in tow, they spent 55 years making a wonderful life together.

Laura was a vibrant blend of pure love, humor, strength, intelligence, and joy. She was funny, beautiful, and stylish– always perfectly dressed and coiffed. She was a talented artist, interior decorator, and floral designer. She was arranging her artwork in her apartment right up until her passing.

Most of all, Laura was always brave enough to lead with her heart, living her life with a depth of feeling few of us allow ourselves. She was open, honest, and oh-so loving. She gave her family and friends every ounce of affection she had. It is that which will sustain us as we find our way without her.

Laura was welcomed home by her beloved Ulric. She is survived by her sister Tisa (Bill) Murphy, cousins Michael (Christine) Catalani and Sharon Kruger, dear friend Soledad Pargas, and her legacy– her children Karl (Leslie) Lindholm, Kiki Lindholm, Jon (Kelly) Lindholm, Siri (Gretchen) Lindholm, grandchildren Taylor (Alex) Lindholm, Meagan (Patrick) Prothro, Jessica Prince (Joe Ivey), Eric Lindholm, Tucker (Montana) Walters, and Bode Walters, and Lily and Andrea Reutzel-Lindholm, and great-grandchildren Braden, Cooper, Vincent, Phillip, and Zachary.

We will hold a celebration of life on February 14, 2026 at 1:00 at Healy-Murphy Center, 618 Live Oak Street, San Antonio, Texas 78202. Laura will be laid to rest next to Ulric in Marlow. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her memory to Healy-Murphy (healymurphy.org).
